Selling Your Facility? Transfer the Unit Trac Account to New Owners.

Created: 4/13/2020

Congrats on selling your storage facility! While we will miss working with you, we wanted to provide the next steps for transferring your Unit Trac account to the new owners.

  1. Add the new owners as users in your Unit Trac account at Business > Settings > Users. You'll need their name, email address and phone number. The new owners will need to accept the invitation that is sent by email through Unit Trac.
  2. Update Business information at Business > Settings > Business. This includes the Primary Contact, Phone, Email and Mailing Address. This may also include the Business Name.
  3. Update the Facility information at Business > Settings > Facilities. This includes the Mailing Addresss and possibly the Business Name.
  4. Review custom notes on your invoices/receipts at Business > Settings > Documents.
  5. Review who receives notifications at Business > Settings > Notifications.
  6. Have the new owner update the Unit Trac billing at Business > Settings > Billing.
  7. After updating the primary contact to the new owner and whenever you are ready, delete the usernames for current owners at Business > Settings > Users.

Please contact the Unit Trac team, so that we can also help with the transition to the new owners:

  • If you are using the eLease, we will update the document for you to ensure that all information is accurate. If the current owners are not using the eLease, but the new owners would like to use this feature - please provide the rental agreement and we will create the eLease for the new owner.
  • If the new owner will be sending out a letter of introduction, we have sample templates to use.
  • We are also happy to provide a guided demo of Unit Trac to introduce the new owners to the software functionality.

Reports - we suggest downloading the following reports for your records:

  • Revenue Report
  • Customer List
  • Lease List
Other updates to consider:
  • Transfer Stripe (integrated credit/debit card processing) account to new owner. Click here for specific directions.
  • If you have a website, update the contact and billing information with the domain registrar. Generally, most Unit Trac clients have used GoDaddy.com as their domain registrar. Most domains are purchased on an annual basis - so you don't want to be surprised in the future.
  • If you have a Facebook account, you may want to transfer or close the account - depending on the preferences of the new owner.
  • If you have a Google Analytics account, you may want to transfer or close the account - depending on the preferences of the new owner.

If the current owners don't have the integrated credit card processing or a website - it's simple to turn these features on.

As always, please feel free to contact the Unit Trac team with any questions. We are happy to help with the transition.
